The Man Behind the Mission
Before there was a Legacy Fund, there was Ambrose Stevens —
a paramedic, leader, humanitarian, husband, father, and friend whose life was defined by showing up for others and making them laugh.
A Life Built Around Service
Ambrose built his life around helping people. For more than two decades, he served his communities as an EMT, volunteer firefighter, paramedic, and eventually a leader in emergency medical services. From his early years in the field to later leadership roles, Ambrose remained committed to supporting the people beside him and caring for the communities they served.
His commitment to service reached far beyond the ambulance. Ambrose deployed in response to disasters and traveled around the world for humanitarian medical missions, bringing his experience, compassion, and willingness to step in wherever he was needed.
For Ambrose, service wasn’t simply a career. It was part of who he was—showing up, sharing what he knew, taking care of people, and leaving things better than he found them.
From Ambrose to “The Legend”
When Ambrose died unexpectedly in February 2024, his commitment to helping others did not end with his life. Through organ donation, he would give one final gift to someone in need.
As his heart was transported from Redding, where he had been serving as an Operations Manager, a California Highway Patrol officer participating in the procession referred to Ambrose as “The Legend.” The name stuck.
It became more than a nickname. It captured the way so many people had come to know him—a man who showed up, served others, and left an impact wherever he went.
The Ambrose “The Legend” Stevens Legacy Fund was created to make sure that impact keeps moving forward.
Amber is Ambrose’s wife and the mother of their two daughters. A former 911 dispatcher and event coordinator, she now works as a flight attendant and leads the Legacy Fund with a deeply personal commitment to carrying Ambrose’s life of service forward for their children and the communities he cared about.

Jeff Shultz
Jeff has been part of Amber and Ambrose’s story for many years. He first worked with Amber during her time as an ambulance dispatcher and later served alongside Ambrose as a paramedic supervisor, becoming someone Ambrose respected and often turned to for advice. Now an Operations Manager, Jeff brings years of EMS leadership and a longstanding connection to the Stevens family to the Legacy Fund.
Peter Goyhenetche
Peter is a paramedic and Operations Manager with American Medical Response. He served alongside Ambrose in Sonoma County, where their professional relationship grew into a close friendship and, ultimately, family. As godfather to Ambrose and Amber’s daughters, Peter brings both a personal connection to Ambrose and a shared commitment to service to the Legacy Fund.
Kathy is Ambrose’s mother and the former Graduate Program Director at Cal Maritime, where she spent years supporting graduate students and higher education before retiring in 2026. A mother of three sons and grandmother of four, she brings her experience in education and her deep connection to Ambrose’s life and values to the Legacy Fund.
